My favorite video this year:
My first instinct is to go to one of the full-length vids from 2020, but I think it might actually be State of Grace. (Which was actually my only full-length vid in 2021, even if the song was still cut short.) There are so many good ones though, but that one was my first Garo vid and the Makai Senki blu-ray footage is so pretty.
My least favorite video this year:
I think it might actually be Alien. Just because of the fact that, while editing, I realized the creepiness of Phineas/Leelee - and was determined to cut around him or interject other characters - which kinda makes the vid a bit jarring.
Most fulfilling video:
Again, probably State of Grace. It was my first, proper Garo vid and I just get so distracted by the shiny, blu-ray Makai Senki footage. Honorable mentions to I Wish I Could Be and Fall in Line though, because multi-female Rider vids just feel super good to work out the show's frustrations to.
Video most underappreciated:
Maybe it's just because vidding has been so sporadic for me lately, but the toku vidding fandom has felt real hollow these past few years, and I'm editing for myself now more than ever. But also, I just feel like the Two Sides of the Same Coin collection just went under everyone's radar. (Maybe most people didn't realize that they all can be watched in a bubble?)
Most fun to make:
VGA Sings the Poke Rap literally was not supposed to be a finished vid, and instead just be a fun exercise to do a resynced Poke Rap. So that just goes to show just how much fun I was having editing that the finished version exists at all.
Video with the single sexiest/most bad ass moment:
Shu kissing Tammy in You Need to Calm Down, only for it to turn into Umeko kissing Tammy.
Also, Sophia just strolling up with Calibur's sword and Is with the Zero-Two driver in Fall in Line, because in this house we stan Sophia!Calibur and Is!Zero-Two.
Biggest vid fail:
Though Hell has a stray frame at one point, even though I haven't had a stray frame in years. (Also, I always think I used footage of the wrong actor in one place, and so I have to re-watch the video to show myself that I didn't.)
There are also some glitches in VGA Sings the Poke Rap, but those are not my fault. Some of my clips had to be gotten from Twitch only streams, and while I was working on it Twitch got real strict on copywritten music, leading Fraser to delete all their Twitch videos. So, when I opened up some of those clips, they turned out to be glitchy and I could not re-acquire them.
Hardest video to make:
Other than the stuff mentioned above, I don't think there was anything all that troubling, to be honest. I guess I could go with Hurt, just because Toei announced the Master's Soul spin-off right before I was about to start editing that vid, and so I had to force myself into a break on the project for over a month.
Most unintentionally telling video:
It's not really a single vid, but I think the Taylor Swift and Britney VS Christina challenges just show that I really want to make an album vid.
The things I've learned this year:
- Kamen Rider Zi-O is super gay.
- Space Squad is super gay.
- Ultraman R/B is super gay.
- Lupinranger VS Patranger is super gay.
(Note: I may have actually known all of this prior to 2020.)
In 2020-2021
- I did drop my average by quite a bit in 2020, but I made up for it in 2021.
- I made more mash-ups. Both the one I coyly mentioned and another sentai/pr one.
- I did not watch Ryuki and did not make a vid on Kobayashi protagonists. But I also said that this one was optional.
- Make a non-toku vid? Done and done.
In 2022
- Keep my one vid a month average.
- Clean up Crackusatsu 4 and finish it. (Yes, I started this shortly after finishing Crack 3.)
- Finish at least one vid that is not a vidlet.
- Watch that recent Raiga!Garo movie and make a vid on the entire Kouga!Garo timeline thus far.
